Lucy F. Faulconbridge, PhD

Lucy F. Faulconbridge, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Director of Research in the Center for Weight and Eating Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. She received her B.A. from the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 2000, and her M.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002.  She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Weill Cornell Medical College-NY Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY, and received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007. 

Dr. Faulconbridge’s research interests currently focus on the co-morbidity of obesity with mental illness, particularly depression. She is interested in changes in mood following weight loss, as well as the relationship between weight change and risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Her research is currently funded by a K23 award from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to examine a novel treatment for obese, depressed individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease.  Dr. Faulconbridge also has expertise in the neural, endocrine, and psychological changes following bariatric surgery and non-surgical weight loss.  In her clinical work, Dr. Faulconbridge uses cognitive-behavioral therapy to treat patients with depression and/or eating disorders, in both individual and groups settings. She is also skilled at administering behavioral weight management to treat obese individuals seeking weight loss.
