Robert H. Kuehnel, Ph.D.

Robert H. Kuehnel, Ph.D., ABPP (Clinical), is Instructor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His is also an Independent Practitioner of Psychology in Wynnewood, PA. Dr. Kuehnel received his B.A. in Philosophy from the State University College at Buffalo in 1980, and his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maine in 1988.

Dr. Kuehnel’s principal interests are in the areas of the treatment of obesity by lifestyle modification; the cognitive therapies of binge eating, the mood and anxiety disorders, and chronic medical conditions; and the assessment of candidates for bariatric surgery.

Dr. Kuehnel completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Dr. Aaron T. Beck in 1991 at the Center for Cognitive Therapy of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, certified as a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
