My email is STILL not working!

If you are having trouble accessing your email, please use Webmail until someone can assist you. Webmail can be found by browsing to: http://zimbra.upenn.edu and logging in with your PennKey.

My e-mail client (Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook, Eudora, etc.) is not working!

Don't worry. Your email is still available. Please use the Zimbra link above to access webmail until your LSP can assist you.

Eudora is not working!

Support for Eudora was discontinued during the 2006-2007 academic year. Please use Webmail (http://zimbra.upenn.edu) until your LSP can consult with you about possible upgrades and alternatives.

I really want to use Eudora even though it's unsupported, but I get some weird certificate error!

You're seeing this because the security certificate used to identify the old mail.med server has changed and Eudora can't find it. You can just click "yes" to accept the new certificate from the Zimbra server. If that doesn't work, please use Webmail (http://zimbra.upenn.edu) until your LSP can consult with you about possible upgrades and alternatives. The School of Medicine will not support the continued use of Eudora.

Who is my LSP?

Please refer to the SOM LSP directory: http://www.med.upenn.edu/somis/lsp_directory.shtml

Uh oh, I didn't change my password before the transition, now what do I do?

Log into Zimbra. Consider using the excellent, user-friendly Zimbra webmail for the weekend. If it is critical for you to be able to use your exisiting email client immediately, it's probably not working because of a password mismatch. Choose "Account Services" instead of "Zimbra Collaboration Suite" before you submit your PennKey and password on the Zimbra link (http://zimbra.upenn.edu).

A whole lot of my messages are missing! Whole folders, even!

You'll get them all back! We're moving the newest, most current messages and folders first. Because of the massive amounts of data to be transferred from mail.med to the Zimbra service, data is being moved as individual mailboxes (not complete user accounts), from the most recently accessed to the oldest.  When the service comes online Saturday, we expect that all mailboxes used within the last two weeks will have been migrated.  If you have mailboxes of older email that you may not have used for some time, it will be migrated, but we expect to see these later in the week.

I have duplicate messages in my inbox.  Why is that?

This usually happens because your e-mail client is using the POP3 protocol and was configured to leave messages on the server for a period of time, which means that only those messages were downloaded again as "new." Your best bet at this point is just to remove the duplicates. This should be a one-time occurence within the context of this transition; once you start receiving messages through the Zimbra server, you should only receive single copies. Furthermore, you should only have duplicates from a limited date range, which may make it easier to clean up.

My BlackBerry hasn't gotten a single new mail.med message since Friday the 25th.

One of two things is likely here: Either you did not reset your "local" password yet, which you can do in Account Services in Zimbra Webmail (http://zimbra.upenn.edu) or you need to resend your service books to the BlackBerry because it was unable to connect to the email server over too long a period. In some cases, both conditions are true. You may need to consult with the LSP who set up your BlackBerry if you need assistance understanding or making these changes.

Zimbra seems really SLOW.  I thought this was supposed to be a better system!

Zimbra is a better system. There are two factors that will continue to impact Zimbra performance for the next week or two:

We expect Zimbra to reach, and remain at, optimal performance by Monday, August 11.
