Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Meyer identifies genetic and molecular risk factors for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and organ dysfunction during sepsis to better understand the pathophysiology of these conditions and to seek novel treatments. The goal of her work is to develop personalized therapy for sepsis and ARDS. Her research program includes:

1) A large observational cohort of critically ill subjects with sepsis including COVID-19 pneumonia phenotyped for infection subtype, comorbidities, survival, ARDS, acute kidney injury (AKI), and cognitive impairment
2) Discovery and validation of genetic and molecular risk factors for sepsis-associated organ dysfunction
3) Clinical trials for ARDS and sepsis [Active: iSPY COVID; CHILL cooling to heal injured lungs]
