Description of CCEB Expertise

Dr. Baker's research is focused on the assessment of disease activity, the impact of obesity in musculoskeletal conditions, and the evaluation of skeletal muscle deficits in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. He is also interested in developing tools and techniques that may lead to more comprehensive risk assessment in individuals with inflammatory arthritis. Current projects include studies evaluating the prognostic role of adipokines in understanding long-term risks in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. He is also evaluating the potential benefit of exercise and corticosteroid injections in osteoarthritis. He also continues to study the long-term risks of obesity as well as skeletal muscle loss and dysfunction in patients with rheumatic disease as well as among the elderly.
