Description of Research Expertise

My research has focused on the relationship of age on the genetic risk for coronary artery disease and stroke. I have also researched the impact of vascular disease on the prevalence and progression of mild cognitive impairment in diverse populations. I continue to have an interest on the role of cardiovascular disease on progression of MCI and memory loss. I am interested in expanding this interest on the development of functional decline and frailty, specifically in the veteran population.

Finally, through my clinical work, I have developed an interest in the impact of chronic TBI on dementia and depression in older adults. There is already a collaborative working group on interventions for chronicTBI patients at the VA. I would like to extend their work to adults adults using the SPIRE feasibility grant at the VA.

Description of Clinical Expertise

My clinical expertise includes the clinical care of older adults in the outpatient clinic and in the long term care facility. Clinically, I am interested in the diagnosis of MCI/dementia in the Veteran Population, and in education and support of the caregivers of patients with dementia. I am currently a working member of the new initiative at the VA for Comprehensive Care of Dementia.
