Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Wagner’s primary appointment is at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center where he has a large administrative role as both the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. There, he attends in both the medical intensive care unit and on the general medicine service, provides inpatient consultative pulmonary medicine, and precepts fellows in pulmonary clinic.

Dr. Wagner's main academic interest is the intersection between medical education and the principles of high-value care. He is a core faculty member for the Internal Medicine Residency Program's Quality, Safety, and Value curriculum. In this role, he provides the introductory intern lecture on high-value care, and he mentors residents in longitudinal quality improvement projects that seek to reduce the delivery of low-value care.

Dr. Wagner is also actively engaged in the Perelman School of Medicine where he was selected to be one of six Measey faculty members to lead a highly regarded component of the Internal Medicine core clerskship. He is an active teacher and has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards from learners in a variety of settings.
