Description of Clinical Expertise

My clinical expertise is in the treatment of patients with advanced and metastatic cancer with a focus on the use of radiotherapy to improve symptom control and quality of life. I believe strongly in an interdisciplinary team approach to providing care for patients and families, focusing on the patient as a person in the context of his or her life and trying to return the patient to optimal functioning. My clinical work centers on patients with advanced cancer admitted to the hospital with difficult to control symptoms and will expand to allow for rapid evaluation and treatment in the outpatient setting.

Description of Research Expertise

My research encompasses three fundamental areas of interest related to health outcomes in patients with advanced cancer:
1. using radiotherapy to improve symptoms, quality of life and overall functioning in patients with advanced and metastatic cancer; and
2. optimizing symptom management in patients with advanced and metastatic cancer receiving radiotherapy.
3. enhancing communication between providers and patients/families living with advanced and metastatic cancer.
