Description of Other Expertise

I have always enjoyed the vital role of education in medicine - education of patients, families, colleagues, trainees. As a result, I have developed my career to function as an educator in multiple unique settings both globally and domestically. I have travelled to Tanzania multiple times to teach the clinicians and patients about general neurology and more specifically epilepsy and its various treatments. I have received funding to bring previously unavailable anti-epileptic medications to Tanzania and have taught the clinicians in which circumstances these medications are indicated. During our most recent trip, I brought an EEG machine to teach the clinicians how to perform and interpret this test to improve the care provided. I have also traveled to Panama and Ecuador treating epilepsy patients with a focus on epilepsy surgery at a Children’s hospital in Panama City. At the University of Pennsylvania, I am the assistant neurology clerkship director, an associate program director of the neurology residency program, assistant program director of the Epilepsy/Neurophysiology Fellowship and Chair of the clinical competency committee for the fellowship. These roles enable me to participate in curricular development and implementation and career development for trainees of all levels. I find the opportunity to provide guidance during a trainee’s pivotal moments of professional growth and career planning particularly rewarding.
