Expertise in Ocular Leprosy. Extensive experience of more than 14 years in diagnosing and treating ocular complications in leprosy patients. Been involved in extensive research in ocular leprosy including being the principal investigator of the WHO sponsored study on longitudinal study of ocular leprosy (LOSOL). Published a number of peer reviewed articles on ocular leprosy and written a chapter on ocular leprosy in a textbook on the disease. Trained local, national and international ophthalmologists and physicians in oculo-plastic surgery and in the treatment of common ocular complications occurring in leprosy. Give lectures on eye manifestations and treatment of ocular leprosy at the biannual seminar on Hansen's disease held at the Gillis National Hansen's disease center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana every year.

Description of Research Expertise

Directing an Ophthalmology Reading Center. Organizing and executing studies that require the services of a centralized reading center in grading digital retinal images of various retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity. Developing grading forms and grading protocols and training non-physician readers to accurately and consistently grade retinal pathology in clinical trials.
