Description of Research Expertise

Smooth muscle biology, airway remodeling, respiratory pharmacology and physiology

Description of Itmat Expertise

Dr. Panettieri's basic research program was the first to identify that histamine is an important airway smooth muscle (ASM) mitogen, developed novel techniques and showed that autocrine secretion of interferon regulates ASM proliferation and airway remodeling, the basic biologic defect in asthma.
