Internship Program Admissions

Interns are selected on the basis of written application, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and interviews.   Successful applicants will have practicum experiences in some or all of the following:  outpatient clinic and/or counseling centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities, general medical hospitals.  The application is reviewed in its entirety, with special attention given to the interests and fit with our program.

Financial and Other Benefit Support for Upcoming Training Year

Annual Stipend/Salary for Full-time Interns:   The annual salary for 2019-2020 will be approximately $30,388. The salary for the optional second year remains the same 

Annual Stipend/Salary for Half-time Interns:  Pro-rated based on above

Hours of Annual Paid Personal Time Off: 

3 weeks paid vacation; 5 personal days

Hours of Annual Paid Sick Leave: 

accrued at the rate of 3.7 hours per 80 hour pay period up to a maximum of 960 hours.

In the event of medical conditions and/or family needs that require extended leave, does the program allow reasonable unpaid leave to

interns/residents in excess of personal time off and sick leave?

Other Benefits:  Interns are regular employees of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and are eligible to receive a full range of benefits.  These are described during the hospital-wide orientation process. 

Please be advised that all candidates seeking employment with Penn Medicine will be subject to:

  • Criminal background check
  • Drug screen 
  • Education credential check  
  • During the onboarding  process, interns must clear an occupational medicine appointment and a flu shot
