Bio statement
Dr. Akua Serwaa Boafo, is a Clinical Research Physician at the KNUST–IVI Collaborative Centre (KICC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. She specializes in vaccine clinical research, infectious diseases, pharmacovigilance, and global health research, with experience leading clinical operations and safety oversight for large scale pediatric vaccine trials conducted in collaboration with international partners. She was a Summer Visiting Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where she engaged with faculty across disciplines and expanded her perspectives on global health research, health systems, and international collaboration.
Her work focuses on generating high quality evidence to support the development, evaluation, and introduction of vaccines in low-resource settings while strengthening clinical research capacity across Africa. She is passionate about advancing equitable access to life-saving health interventions through collaborative research, strategic partnerships, and evidence-informed policy.
Recent global health projects

TyVEGHA Phase IV Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine Study Served as Project Physician for a large Phase IV evaluation of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine among children in Ghana. Responsibilities included clinical oversight, participant safety monitoring, adverse event assessment, protocol implementation, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with local and international partners. The study aims to generate evidence to inform national and global typhoid vaccination policy. PEDVAC Phase IIa Invasive Non-Typhoidal Salmonella Vaccine Trial Served as Project Physician/Sub-Investigator on a Phase IIa pediatric clinical trial evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of an investigational invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella vaccine. Responsibilities included clinical management, pharmacovigilance, protocol adherence and regulatory reporting, and community engagement to support successful implementation. |
