Bio statement

Dr. Bogadi Loabile is an early-career investigator and Instructor of Medicine within the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed a clinical infectious diseases fellowship and a Master of Science in Epidemiology. As a native of Botswana, she has leveraged Penn's affiliation with the country through the Botswana-UPenn Partnership, along with her training, to build a global health research career in sub-Saharan Africa.

During her MSCE and post-doctoral training, Bogadi lived in Botswana to develop her research skills, leading multiple projects across the HIV care continuum. This work included studies on barriers to HIV care in the era of same-day ART initiation, along with formative implementation investigations assessing the feasibility of integrating adjunctive health services, such as smoking cessation, into TB care. With guidance from Dr. Robert Gross and Robbie Schnoll, she also helped lead implementation-focused research tracking clinical trial modifications during a randomized clinical trial testing smoking cessation interventions for people with HIV in Botswana, work aimed at identifying potential implementation strategies for that setting.

Bogadi's research interests center on using implementation science to enhance care delivery for people living with and at risk of HIV, particularly by improving the integration of health services. She recently published a retrospective chart review finding that women with HIV in Botswana were more likely to develop infectious complications from abortion. Building on this work, she plans to develop implementation strategies that improve the integration of sexual and reproductive healthcare for adolescent girls and women in this setting, including investigating how HIV prevention services like PrEP might be integrated into abortion care in Botswana, an approach that could be applicable to other global settings.

As part of her commitment to building local research capacity, Bogadi manages a research consultancy service called Sedibeng, supported by Penn CFAR, which provides technical advice to early-career researchers and students in Botswana.
