Application Development

PMACS has a team of web designers, programmers, and project managers that develop and maintain web-based database applications. Development is currently limited to applications with school-wide relevance or benefit and to clients paying for software development.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Database Management primarily in Oracle RDBMS
  • Administrative Systems
  • Education systems
    • i.e. Admissions, Student Records
  • Research systems
    • i.e. ACCARD, Cores Management and Billing

Our clients interact with one of several development teams who all work within an Agile method of project management known as "Scrum". A clients primary point of contact will be with a Product Owner (similar to a project manager) who will collect and assist in prioritizing requirements and addressing issues. For a full description of PMACS's process, read this document (PDF).

Our development environment depends primarily on Open Source tools including: Ruby on Rails and PHP running on Linux with Apache servers.  We also leverage some University licensed products like Oracle RDBMS for data storage.
