2023 National Postdoc Appreciation Week

The Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs (BPP)The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia's (CHOP) Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) have collaborated to honor postdocs during The National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW). The celebration takes place September 18th—22nd, 2023.

*Please make note:  Most events are open exclusively to Penn, CHOP, Monell, Swarthmore and Wistar postdocs.

Monday, September 18, 2023

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, NATIONAL POSTDOC APPRECIATION WEEK: KICK OFF – BARBEQUE,
Colket Translational Research Building (CTRB) Lobby (3501 Civic Center Blvd)

The entire community is invited to the Penn-CHOP National Postdoc Appreciation Week Kick-Off Barbeque,
taking place in in the Colket Translational Research Building (CTRB) Lobby and outdoor garden.

Plenty of food will be available for all those that attend!

During National Postdoc Appreciation Week, the Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs has reserved time for postdoctoral researchers to take advantage of the Professional Photo Booth at Career Services located in the McNeil Building (3718 Locust Walk), Basement Level in Suite 20.

This first come, first serve self-serve booth experience is extended to our Penn, Monell, Swarthmore, and Wistar postdocs for National Postdoc Appreciation Week.

Take up to three photos and edit your favorite, all using the touch screen device in the booth or by scanning a QR code with your smartphone! Photos are then delivered by email.

Policies: The Iris Photobooth, co-sponsored by GAPSA and the UA, is available for use by the entire Penn community to take free professional headshots. The booth is self-serve and available during the regular business hours of Career Services. Users must agree to the Iris Terms & Conditions via an on-screen prompt before taking their photos. Users are provided with digital copies of their photos only. Career Services cannot print your photos. The creation of an account with irisbooth.com is required to download your photos. Photos are retained in the cloud for 12 months before being deleted. Career Services retains the right to access photos from the cloud service for technical support and review purposes.

Biomedical Research Building II/III

The Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs are pleased to provide complimentary 10-minute chair massages for our Penn postdocs (postdocs from our affiliate institutions are ineligible) during National Postdoc Appreciation Week. 

Here are some chair massage benefits:

  • Brings down anxiety and depression
  • Relieves pain and muscle tensions
  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces stress

Massages will be available in 10-minute slots from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Registration is required, as availability is limited.  Take advantage of this opportunity by registering a time to take a break and relax.

Consent and authorization for this voluntary service is required on the date of the event. Arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment, to check-in and guarantee your slot.  Please be considerate and notify dcrawley@pennmedicine.upenn.edu, if you no longer can commit to your appointment.
