Templates

  1. Homepage Template: template for homepage ONLY
  2. Subpage Template: default template for all subpages
  3. Photo Gallery: display a grid of thumbnail images that link to full size image in a overlayed slideshow.
  4. Pubmed Feed Template: display a customized feed of articles from Pubmed.

Homepage: Template Variables

These special features are found on the Homepage in the Template Variables tab

Banner

refer to the Images section to crop the banner images to the correct size.

Contact Us

This will create a link to the "Contact Us" page in the navigation. The navigation item will also receive styling to be a different shade of blue and an added marker icon to differentiate it from the rest of the navigation items.

Featured

Any announcement or information that you want to stand out will be displayed at the bottom of the homepage with a light blue background.

News: Manual, RSS or none

You can choose between Manual, RSS or none for a news feature on the homepage. Only 5 news items will display in this section.

Sidebar

You can choose to have up to 3 optional side bars on the homepage. The sidebar has the option of a light green or light blue background.

Social Media

You can add a weblink to your facebook and/or twitter account that will show up as a stylized navigation item. The style will have the facebook and twitter icon next to it and the background will be a different shade of blue.

Spotlight

You can have up to 3 spotlight announcements that will show up in 3 columns with a light blue background at the bottom of the homepage

Support Our Work

This will create a link to the "Support Our Work" page in the navigation. The navigation item will also receive styling to be a different shade of blue and an added gift icon to differentiate it from the rest of the navigation items. If there is not support our work page for the subsites, the navigation item will link to the Psychiatry philanthropy page.


Subpage: Template Variables

These special features are found on any Subpage in the Template Variables tab

Sidebar

You can choose to have up to 3 optional side bars on the subpage. The sidebar has the option of a light green or light blue background. The sidebars stack on top of one another in the right column of the page. The more sidebars you have the longer the page becomes. Make sure that you have enough content in the main content area if you are going to have more than one sidebar.

Special Feature

In order to best display and enhance different types and lengths of content, we have created some special page features.


Photo Gallery Template

The Photo Gallery Template is the same as the Subpage Template except that it includes a photo gallery instead of the features listed under "Special Features", above.

On the "Photo Gallery" tab you can add into content and create a list of images to be displayed in a grid of thumbnails. When a user clicks a thumbnail, the gallery will open in an overlay slideshow.

Pubmed Feed Template

These special features are found on the Pubmed Feed Template in the Template Variables tab

PubMed Feed Generator

You can generate a feed from PubMed with configurable search criteria.

PubMed Feed Status

Preview PubMed Feed

To preview your PubMed feed, do the following:

This will display a page with a preview of the PubMed feed and at the bottom of the page, the feed generated from a query for PubMed.

*Note: when 'Preview' is chosen, the feed will not be updated and the last generated feed will be used.

Update PubMed Feed on Your Webpage

To update your PubMed search criteria, choose 'Update Nightly' to have the feed updated nightly with this configuration.

Bottom Content

Content that will be displayed below the PubMed Feed.

Featured

SEO: Google Analytics, Site Description & Keywords

Google analytics code, site description and keywords are included under Extras in Configurations at the top menu. Feel free to update the information as needed.

If you want your meta descriptions to be page specific, you can edit the "Description" field in the resources options. However, if the "Description" field is empty, the overall site description will take precedence.

If you do not have Google Analytics and wish to install it on your site, please view these instructions.


Navigation

Create a Container with Sub-menu Items in your Navigation

NOTE: This page technically does not exist on your site, its sole purpose is to act as a top-level navigation item that contains child pages, or sub-navigation items.

Here are the instructions on setting up a container in your navigation:

  1. Under the "Document" tab
    • ensure that "Uses Template" is set to (empty)
  2. Under the "Settings" tab
    • ensure that "container" is checked
  3. Save

Images

To ensure that your images are the appropriate height and width, use the free cropping tool Pixlr.

Banner Images

Ensure the banner image is cropped to 1200px by 200px.

Find a large stock image ~ 3000px by 1000px, the bigger the better, that has a long panoramic section. For example, the city skyline is a great panoramic image that fits the banner size. Close up images of people are not great banner images for this design. Those images would be better fitting for the content area.

An RSS feed can be added to the News section on the Home page.

Secure Documents/Web Pages

You can PennKey protect a document by uploading it to the "secure" folder located under files, inside of the "User Media Files" folder. You would then link to the secure document in one of your web pages.

If you want to PennKey secure a web page, add "secure/" (without quotes) before the name in the alias form field when editing the page


User Styles

Remove format on content using the Tx icon

Ensure you clear all styles when you copy and paste from a different program (Word, plain text, web page, etc). When copy/pasting content, make sure to highlight everything and click 'Remove Format' (The italic T with the small x). You can also use the clipboard options.

Including special characters

For quotation marks or other special characters, select 'Insert Special Characters' found in the top row of the toolbar. Make sure your cursor is clicked in the content area to select a character and include.

Links

Making email addresses hyperlinks

  1. Enter the email address into the content area.
  2. Select the email address you just entered and click the link icon from the menu.
  3. Within the "Link Info" tab:
    • Choose "Email" from the "Link Type" drop down menu.
    • Enter the email address in the "Email Address" field.
    • Click OK.
    • Save.

Making phone numbers hyperlinks

  1. Enter the phone number into the content area.
  2. Select the phone number you just entered and click the link icon from the menu.
  3. Within the "Link Info" tab:
    • Choose "URL" from the "Link Type" drop down menu.
    • Choose "Other" from the "Protocol" drop down menu.
    • Enter the phone number in the URL field in the following format: tel:+1-555-555-5555
    • Click OK.
    • Save.

Static Resources

Static Resources allow you to link to add PDFs within the navigation of your site.

There are 2 steps to create a static resource:

  1. Click the static resource "" shortcut button.
  2. Click the "" icon to the right of the Static Resource field in order to add your desired document.
  3. Under the "Settings" tab, change the content type of the static resource to "PDF".
  4. Save.
