Ethics

Dr. Reese uses normative and empirical ethics analyses to make transplantation more fair and more efficient. This work has included arguments for sensible informed consent guidelines for living kidney donors and empirical study of the effects of financial incentives on living kidney donation. Dr. Reese has examined patterns of organ donor registration and conducted research to determine effective strategies to promote organ donor registration. He has also highlighted shortcomings in current organ allocation practices that heavily favor multi-organ transplant recipients regardless of other considerations. He is past chair of the Ethics Committee for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
