Clinical Research Annual Recognition of Excellence Awards
The Clinical Research Coordinator Annual Recognition of Excellence (CARE) award is an annual recognition event hosted by the Penn Society of Clinical Research Coordination and Management (SCRCM) and the Office of Clinical Research (OCR). This event is to celebrate our clinical research staff at Penn and honor members of our research community who best exemplifies excellence in the knowledge, skills and values of the clinical research profession.

C.A.R.E Award Categories
Each year, three awards are given to deserving clinical research personnel who are within different areas of their career. The awards are as follows:
- Rising Star Award
- Leading Edge in Clinical Research Award
- Lifetime Achievement Award
Rising Star Award
Clinical research support staff members who have at least 2 years of clinical research experience are eligible to be nominated for this award. The award recognizes individuals who have who have demonstrated initiative, motivation, maturity, professionalism and attention to detail in the pursuit of their responsibilities. Additionally this person should have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills that are likely to lead to a successful career within the Penn clinical research community.
Leading Edge in Clinical Research Award
The Leading Edge in Clinical Research Award recognizes an individual who exemplifies the spirit of ingenuity and inventiveness within clinical research through adaptation, enhancement, and development of new processes /approaches that result in improvement to the clinical research execution. This person has demonstrated the ability to consistently approach research with creativity and zeal, shown a willingness to assume additional responsibilities/roles and has demonstrated an impressive body of clinical and regulatory research skills.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a clinical research professional who during their lifetime at Penn has made consistently superior contributions of outstanding significance to the field of clinical research at the University of Pennsylvania. This award recognizes that the scope of clinical research is diverse and requires the input and effort of a wide variety of individuals. The awardee will have demonstrated tremendous experience in the clinical, regulatory and/or financial aspects of the clinical research profession and has contributed to training the next generation of clinical research professionals.
Nominations
Process for Nominations
Nominations can be made by any faculty or staff of the University of Pennsylvania community including Principal Investigators, Sub-Investigators, coordinators, research teams, and Department and Division administration and staff. The Clinical Research C.A.R.E. Award Committee reviews all submitted nominations and associated letters of support to make the final determination of award recipients. The Award Selection Committee is comprised of faculty, research coordinators, and representatives from Penn Medicine and University research administrative offices.
A potential award recipient may only be nominated in one category. Letters of support should reflect the unique criteria outlined in each award description. The 2021 recipient will be announced at the Clinical Research Coordinator Annual Recognition of Excellence (CARE) Awards.
All nominations must be received no later than Monday, August 15th 2021 7:00PM EST to be considered for an award
Who is Eligible?
Eligibility Requirements:
In order for the nominees to be evaluated by the appointed selection committee, they must meet all of the following criteria:
1. |
Nominees must work full time and have direct subject/patient interaction. (Except for the Lifetime Achievement Award) |

2. |
Nominees must be in their current role for a minimum of 2 years. |
|
3. |
Nominees must not be a previous recipient of the CR C.A.R.E. Award. |
|
4. |
Nominees must have a current Penn CR certification. |
|
5. |
Nominees must have a completed online nomination form. |
|
6. |
Nominees must receive two letters of support for their nomination |

All Clinical Research Coordinators and Project Managers are invited to attend the Clinical Research Annual Recognition Event.
Keeping in line with the ongoing University of Pennsylvania guidelines, that prohibits large gatherings during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this years CARE Award event will be held virtually. Now, more than ever, the Penn Clinical Research community continues to support the fight against COVID-19, some in the front lines.
