Detailed Position Description:

The Center for Global Health at the Perelman School of Medicine seeks candidates to serve as Director of Nursing at the Penn Medicine Center for Excellence in Oncology (COE) – Vietnam. The position is based in Hanoi, Vietnam and the primary responsibility of the position is to oversee all aspects of clinical and academic-related nursing functions of the COE, which is jointly held with the Vinmec Health System. The employment contract resides within the Center for Global Health at the Perelman School of Medicine with full university benefits in place. The Director of Nursing will interface with senior leaders in oncology and global health at Penn and Vinmec, to plan and implement the Center strategy, including all aspects of clinical training, healthcare provision, the interface with clinical research, and nursing program management. The position will also interface with the VinUniversity to implement clinical training programs for the BN degree. The specific job responsibilities include:

  • Support the Center Director, physicians, and nurse managers with the development and implementation of specific objectives and deliverables as outlined for the COE in Oncology. 
  • Work with clinical leadership at Penn and Vinmec to organize, design, and communicate quality and patient safety initiatives. Support the Vinmec nurse managers by communicating with staff the importance of patient satisfaction and quality of care.
  • Work with the Center Director and Vinmec to ensure nurses are trained in protocols to ensure patient safety on the Oncology wards. Assist the Center Director with defining and guiding processes of quality measurements internally to ensure that quality standards are met and maintained at the bedside.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues at Penn and COE leadership to coordinate, administer, and develop pre-approved and funded educational conferences for CNE and advanced training programs for skilled nurses at Vinmec Times City Hospital.
  • Provide mentorship to junior and senior nurses at Vinmec in achieving education and care outcomes for the COE in Oncology. 
  • Collaborate with VinUniversity in the development of proposals to establish clinical preceptor training programs for nursing students in the BN program.
  • Prior to the issuance of a practice license in Vietnam, provide consultation, training, and sharing of clinical experience with Vinmec staff via case conferences or other modality of teaching and learning. After issuance of a practice license in Vietnam, provide direct care to patients on the Oncology ward.

Depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, the position may have an associated faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Applicants must have the BSN or equivalent degree. The MSN and board certification (US national or international) in Oncology is also strongly preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
