Department of Pediatrics

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is the oldest hospital in the United States dedicated exclusively to pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics at CHOP and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania strives to be the world leader in advancing healthcare for children and adolescents. We do this by integrating excellent patient care, innovative research, cutting-edge professional education programs, and timely advocacy for the pediatric population into all that we do.

Through the Department of Pediatrics, we are able to deliver the most advanced pediatric primary and subspecialty care to children throughout the United States and around the world. The department provides clinical services at our Main Campus in Philadelphia and at more than 50 pediatric and adolescent primary and specialty care network locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as through a Home Care program serving more than 4,000 patients each year.

Through CHOP’s Department of Global Medicine, our pediatric providers work with families and children from around the world, offering access to the highest quality healthcare and the most skilled specialists in pediatric medicine.

The Department of Pediatrics is highly regarded nationally and internationally, and is consistently named among the premier academic pediatric departments in the United States. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the Department of Pediatrics the No. 1 training program for pediatrics for 11 consecutive years. We offer a supportive environment for both clinical and academic work, including support for cutting-edge research through CHOP’s Research Institute. Over the past decade, the department has continued to grow in breadth and depth of clinical programs, research activity, and education initiatives.

Our core values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence create a framework for everything we do throughout the department and across the institution.

Continuing education and training

The Department of Pediatrics offers a variety of professional educational opportunities and training programs that support CHOP’s mission:
