Description of Clinical Expertise

Led the Denver Zoo Veterinary Medicine and Nutrition Departments, including three staff veterinarians, five veterinary technicians, and a nutritionist in order to providing medical, surgical, and nutritional care for a collection of approximately 3000 animals. Oversaw all animal health care at the institution, including quarantine, preventive medicine, surgery, anesthesia, pathology, and nutrition. Led veterinary program in field conservation with work in Mongolia and the southwestern U.S., with a focus on wildlife livestock disease transmission.

Description of Research Expertise

Multiple research projects on free-ranging wildlife including anesthesia,
epidemiology, diagnostics, telemetry implantation.
Clinical assessment and treatment of infertility in a greater one-horned rhinoceros.
Cutaneous vitiligo associated with hypovitaminosis D in Malayan flying foxes (Pteropus vampyrus) and Island flying foxes (Pteropus hypomelanus.
Tuberculosis surveillance of elephants (Elephas maximus) in Nepal at the captive-wild interface.
Other wildlife projects include endangered riparian brush rabbit recovery program, and field projects in Madagascar, Alaska, and other locations. (br>Studies of tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance in free-ranging elk and mule deer.
