Joseph Baur, PhD Joseph A. Baur, Ph.D., Director;

Dr. Baur maintains an active research program that involves extensive metabolic phenotyping in rodents. Major interests in the lab include the effects of caloric restriction (CR) and CR-mimetic drugs, regulation of energy expenditure by adipose tissue “browning”, and the development of tools for isotopic labeling of precursors to assess metabolic flux. Dr. Baur oversees all aspects of the core and provides long-term strategic direction.

William Quinn

William Quinn, PhD. Technical Director:

Dr. Quinn has many years of experience performing metabolic phenotyping studies in mice and rats, including clamps with radioactive and stable isotope tracers, lipid metabolism, immunology, and various aspects of muscle and liver physiology. Dr. Quinn is involved in all aspects of the core and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and scheduling

Xiaoyan Yin, MD

Xiaoyan Yin, MD, Research Specialist:

Dr. Yin has more than 10 years of experience with the handling of rodents, rodent surgery, and use of metabolic equipment and testing. Dr. Yin routinely performs venous catherization, NMR, DEXA, assessment of acute energy expenditure and chronic energy expenditure, treadmill, running wheel, cannulation of the lateral cerebral ventricle, subcutaneous implantation of Alzet miniosmotic pumps, intra-duodenal catheterization, muscle strength and coordination, glucose and insulin tolerance test and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic glucose clamps.

Qiangwei Chu

Qingwei Chu, MD, MSc Research Specialist:

Dr. Chu has more than 10 years of experience with hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic glucose clamps with both radioactive and stable isotope tracers. She is a highly skilled surgeon and performs catheterizations in a number of configurations to support infusion of isotopes, arterial blood sampling, and implantation of probes. Dr. Chu is also experienced in assaying muscle glucose uptake, liver perfusion, hepatocyte isolation, and measurement of lipid metabolism. She routinely handles rodents and uses variety of equipment for metabolic tests.
