Philadelphia Schools AED Contest

If you attend, work at, or are affiliated with a Philadelphia elementary, middle or high school we want you to support the MyHeartMap Challenge. Why focus on schools? Pediatric sudden cardiac death often happens without warning. This sudden loss of heart function affects approximately 1,000 children and adolescents every year in the United States. When someone collapses and stops breathing in a school setting, an AED can save their life. On any given day, 20% of our population can be found on a school campus.

Youth Heart Watch, a program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia created to prevent sudden cardiac death among children and adolescents, will donate an AED to each of the three school types (elementary, middle, or high school) that submit the greatest number of validated AEDs for the contest. This donation will be contingent on approval by the Philadelphia School Board.

Contest Registration:

-You must be 18 years of age or older to register so teams must be led, supervised, and directed by a school affiliate such as a parent, teacher, coach, or principal.

-Students under the age of 18 may be involved as "cheerleaders" and recruiters to gain support and encourage others such as parents and family friends to join their school's team.

-There is no minimum number of AEDs to submit for the Philadelphia schools MyHeartMap Challenge contest.

-You can still participate if your school already has an AED or if they do not have an AED.

-All other contest rules, terms and conditions will apply.

We especially encourage those without AEDs in their schools to send locations at which they would like to see an AED. Youth Heart Watch provides free consultations to schools and can help suggest ways that your school can find funding for AEDs.
