Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Lowenthal's research is focused on issues of importance to international child health. The majority of her work relates to the care and treatment of HIV-infected children and adolescents. She is currently the Principal Investigator for an NIH Research Career Development Award through NIMH focused on adherence to antiretroviral therapies among HIV-infected adolescents in Botswana. She has active research collaborations in several other countries including Zimbabwe, the Dominican Republic, and Nigeria. Her studies incorporate mixed-methods approaches and have included large cohort studies, clinical trials, and qualitative research. Dr. Lowenthal is a member of the Scientific Committee for Treatment and the Adherence Technical Working Group for the International Maternal Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network. At CHOP, she is director of the Global Health Research Affinity Group.
