Pink noise disrupts sleep
Monday, February 2, 2026
Noise machines or other sources of broadband noise have been marketed to improve sleep. However, in a recent study led by Mathias Basner, M.D., Ph.D., pink noise reduced REM sleep and overall sleep quality with more frequent awakenings. For blocking aircraft or other ambient noise, ear plugs were most effective. Full story reported in Penn Medicine News.
