Led by Amita Sehgal of Medicine, researchers have found that a rhythm of cellular detox in files and mammals is synchronized by a neuropeptide that also drives feeding.

Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience, located in the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The Department was founded in 1992. Its mission is to advance understanding of the nervous system through fundamental research and to train the next generation of neuroscientists and physicians.

Current Events:

Our research interests are wide-ranging and include understanding the development of neurons and neural circuitry; exploring how neural circuits function; defining disease processes that compromise neural performance; and explaining the behavior of organisms from a molecular, cellular, and systems prospective. We address these issues in both vertebrate and invertebrate model systems using techniques drawn from every major biological discipline.
