I am an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine, with a specialization in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. I serve as the Associate Director of the Center for Resuscitation Science and as the Director of both the Critical Care Outreach and Procedure Service and the Medical Rapid Response Team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
My research and clinical interests center on improving care for patients requiring resuscitation, whether in the ICU or on general hospital wards. I am particularly focused on optimizing the delivery of high-acuity care for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, or other forms of shock.
My research focuses on inpatient clinical emergencies, with a particular emphasis on the early detection and management of patient deterioration both within and beyond the intensive care unit. I have explored topics such as rapid response systems, in-hospital cardiac arrest, and efforts to establish clear, data-driven definitions of clinical decompensation.
My work includes studies on delays in rapid response activation, outcomes from in-hospital cardiac arrest, hemorrhagic shock, emergency airway management, and the CIRCE project, which is designed to create research-ready electronic health record data. Through both my clinical practice and research, I am committed to improving outcomes for critically ill patients across the hospital setting.
