"Translating Islet Biology into Clinical Therapy" represents the first joint effort of the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism and the newly formed Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Nearly 50 laboratories on campus are engaged in projects related to beta cell biology. We hope this retreat will bring Penn's large beta cell community together.
Doris Stoffers, who is director of Penn's PA state-funded beta cell regeneration team, is working with John Gearhart and his team to organize this event which promises to be very interactive and exciting. Dr. Gaulton will provide opening remarks, Ken Zaret will deliver the keynote lecture and there will be talks by senior and junior faculty as indicated on the agenda, including late-breaking short presentations to be chosen among abstract submissions.
Attendees will also hear from the JDRF on its mission to advocate for cutting-edge research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes. Another highlight will be presentation of posters about Core resources for islet biologists at Penn.
Organizing Committee: Dr. Doris A. Stoffers (Chair), Dr. John Gearhart, Dr. Klaus Kaestner, Dr. Edward E. Morrisey, Dr. Ali Naji, Dr. Michael R. Rickels, Ms. Kishani Martin, Ms. Terry Torres.
