What We Do
In the Sloane Neurorecovery Lab, we aim to study the unique changes that stroke survivors face and develop innovative, technology-based neurorehabilitation studies to improve function and quality of life.
We are a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, students and trainees who share a common goal to improve recovery after stroke and other acute neurological injuries and a commitment to engage in rigorous neuroscience-driven research to understanding the complexities of neurorecovery. There are many factors that contribute to the process of neurorecovery. Our laboratory focuses on neuroplasticity, the brain's intrinsic ability to heal, in the face of injury. We are focused on understanding the mechanisms that underlie neural recovery and developing interventions that optimize these natural brain processes. Our interventional studies involve neuromodulation, or non-invasive brain stimulation, primarily. In addition to our recovery-focused studies at Penn, we also collaborate with experts around the world. If our studies are not a match for a survivor of brain injury interested in research, we will work to match them with studies conducted by our colleagues.
