Welcome to Peds in Practice at PSOM!
Integrating pediatric knowledge, skills, and teaching across the continuum of medical education.
Peds in Practice is an educational resource designed to bridge foundational learning and clinical application. Organized by common pediatric chief complaints, each section provides a structured clinical framework that guides learners through the approach to history, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and management.* Each chief complaint has its own landing page with an overview and links to associated key conditions, selected to represent commonly encountered signs, symptoms, and diagnoses in pediatric practice. The chief compaint and/or key condition includes knowledge checks and high-yield resources for deeper exploration.
Each topic links to relevant components of the Perelman School of Medicine curriculum, allowing students to revisit prior learning and strengthen integration across pre-clerkship, clerkship, and advanced clinical experiences. Recommended electives are highlighted for those wishing to deepen their understanding in specific areas of pediatrics.
The Teacher’s Corner offers faculty and residents ready-to-use teaching tools, discussion prompts, and strategies to support small-group instruction.
*Please note that while each chief complaint and key condition follows a common organizational framework, some variation exists. Content is adapted to the specific topic and reflects the author’s clinical and educational perspective. If you click on the chief complaint, you will get to a landing page with multiple subheadings. Clicking on Key Conditions, PSOM Curriculum, Clinical Approach, Teacher's Corner will take you to those pages only.
We'd loved to hear any feedback on ways to make this most useful for you as well as ideas on topics to include!
