Description of Other Expertise

In my capacity as Chair of Education, then major member of the Garden Court
Community Association and President, then member, of our Community
Garden, and as ESL tutor for children in grades 2-8, I have new expertise in the fields of

a) tutoring in reading, math and science, including use of French for newly arrived immigrant
children. I also have audited a course in Developmental Psychopathology by Dr. Leslie
Rescorla at Bryn Mawr, which helped me guide several children with psychological
problems, in the role of tutor, not therapist.

b) planning, preparing and leading and later co-teaching science clubs with all experimental
materials provided grades 2-5 or 6. This includes microscopy, some basic kitchen
chemistry, states of water, fire extinguishers, bouyancy, magnets
and electricity, types of seeds and leaves, germination, and phototropism.

c) Proposing and participating in establishment of the School Garden and, with help,
maintenance of this Lea School Garden including pruning and spraying.
In taking charge of the Garden I also teach children the basics of planting care and
pruning, and identification of seeds, fruits, flowers and animals to be found in the Garden.

Help with street tree planting and maintenance, including planting with children.

d) Organizing Book Choosing and book sales; annual event in which we help first graders
choose, read and keep a book of their choice. Requires organizing a group.

(e) continue ability to teach histology sections, Modules I and II
