Description of Research Expertise

Research Interests:
The overall aim of my research program is to develop robust biomarkers using neuroimaging, biofluid biomarkers, and genetics that can be used to better diagnose neurodegenerative disease like frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in an effort to accelerate drug discovery of disease-modifying agents and to define essential clinical trial endpoint measures for emerging treatment trials.

Rotation Projects:
Typical projects involve analysis of neuroimaging datasets to address clinical translation questions (e.g., Can diffusion tensor imaging identify underlying sources of pathology in neurodegenerative disease patients?), basic science questions (e.g., How is a genetic polymorphism related to neuroanatomical structure?), or cognitive neuroscience questions (e.g., How do social cognitive mechanisms contribute to language processing in patients and healthy adults?).

All lab personnel are members of the Penn Frontotemporal Degeneration Center (FTDC).
