Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Messe has performed research on risk of carotid endarterectomy, tPA dosing errors, and the management of patients with stroke and PFO. He is currently investigating ischemic neuroprotection medications for high risk surgical patients.

Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Messe specializes in caring for inpatients with acute stroke and neurologic illnesses requiring critical care. He is also a member of the intraoperative monitoring team providing neurophysiologic testing to surgical patients at risk of brain, spinal cord, or nerve injury. In the outpatient setting, he primarily cares for patients with stroke and cerebrovascular disease.
