Description of Research Expertise

Research related to pain including the use of new pain medications, brain function in people with pain, complementary and alternative therapies, and new methodologies for understanding how patients report their pain in clinical trials. Current research includes ongoing studies of acupuncture for the treatment of pain in osteo-arthritis patients and chronic fatigue in cancer patients, brain imaging of patients with pain, and studies of cancer treatment related pain.

Description of Itmat Expertise

Dr. Farrar studies pain and symptom management (with a focus on measurement, analysis and interpretation methodology) and pharmacoepidemiological studies using large databases, functional neuroimaging studies in pain related disease, and novel methodology in the design and execution of clinical trials.
