- Help yourself – Do not rely solely on university funding. There are a lot of external opportunities available. Please take a moment to look at the following sites:

- Indian buffet at 38th and Chestnut (student discount!)
- Food carts all over campus
- Reading Terminal Market for $7 Amish or $5 Thai cuisine
- WAWA
- $1 Thursday dinner at Penn Newman Center (with pie and/or ice cream)
- $8 lunch menu at O’Hara’s Fish House
- Fellini (on 23rd and Walnut), BYOB and $30 gets you a salad, appetizer and pasta entrée for two to share
- $10 NY strip steak at Philly Diner
- Restaurant Week (twice a year): try the really expensive/trendy places for $30
- Mama Palma’s gourmet pizza on 23rd & Spruce
- South Philly and the Italian Market – authentic cheap Italian food

- Singapore Vegetarian Kosher Restaurant in Chinatown
- Gianna’s Grille – portions large enough for two meals (try the huge GG Italiano for 7.25); also try their vegan desserts

- Whole Foods vegan and vegetarian hot bar selection
- Magic Carpet food cart on Spruce Street
Happy Hour
- Happy hour at La Terrasse – half-price lagers
- Mad 4 Mex - $6 HUGE margaritas
- Lucy’s for quarter drafts or Drunken Monkey Sundays
- Happy hour martinis at Pod from 4:30 – 6:00
- Try eating happy hour food at the bar instead of paying for a full price dinner
Things to do around town

- Go to Strikes to bowl for $5 a game or split the $11 hourly charge for a pool table
- $6 student entrance to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts gallery
- Art Museum on Sundays (pay what you wish all day)
- First Friday’s at the galleries in Old City
- Opera – if you go 2 hours before the show, they give students the leftover tickets for only $5
- Philadelphia Orchestra – students can take the seats of no-shows
It doesn't get any better than FREE
- Free symphony concert at Irvine Auditorium
- Free football games at Franklin Field
- Learn about Philly history – a lot of sites are free to visit
- Try out local parks and trails – bike/run/walk along the river on Kelly Drive
- Take the time to walk up the steps of the Art Museum and take in the view of the city – spectacular photo op and you can feel like Rocky!
