Windows 11 Upgrade - Self-Service Guide

This guide outlines how to upgrade your PMACS-managed Windows device from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Time:

1-2 hours, depending on network speed and hardware. To minimize disruption, you can begin this process (up to step 9) before you leave for the day, and it will run on its own overnight.

Prerequisites:

  • Your device is running Windows 10 (version 2004 and later). Note: If your device is already running Windows 11 you do not need to upgrade. You can confirm your version by going to Start > Settings > System > About > version is listed under "Windows Specifications".
  • Your device must be compatible with Windows 11. (See more)
  • 9 GB of available storage.

Instructions:

  1. Before beginning the upgrade process, please ensure you have saved all open files on your PC.
  2. Click Here to download the Windows 11 Installer.
  3. Once the download is complete, launch the 'Windows 11 Installation Assistant'.
  4. You might be prompted to use the 'PC Health Check app' to check compatibility, if so, click 'Get PC Health Check App' to download and install the app, then run it. Click 'Check Now'. If your device is not compatible, you will be prompted here.
  5. Go back to 'Windows 11 Installation Assistant' and click ‘Accept and Install’
  6. Once you accept, the installation process will begin. If you wish to run this upgrade overnight, you can lock the PC at this point and it will complete on its own.
  7. Once installation is complete, you will be prompted to reboot your device, to reboot immediately select ‘Restart Now’
  8. The device will reboot (potentially multiple times). Please be patient, do not turn off the device at any point.
  9. Once completed, you will be brought to the Windows 11 login screen.

Troubleshooting:

If you require additional assistance with the upgrade or experience any issues, please submit a PMACS CSG helpdesk ticket.
