Experiential Learning and Assessment Center

Welcome to Penn Medicine Standardized Patient (Penn Med SP) Program

Our mission is to provide safe, measurable, authentic learning and testing experiences for all trainees. We are proud of our unwavering commitment to high-quality programming, customized to meet our clients’ unique needs. We look forward to working with you! We have established the Experiential Learning and Assessment Center at the Perelman School of Medicine to mark our 20th anniversary as we embrace expansion beyond healthcare and we look toward the future. At our heart, we remain the Penn Med Standardized Patient Program, yet the term Standardized Professionals more accurately reflects our program’s scope and mission, and encompasses the range of roles our capable SPs can be trained to portray. The field of human simulation has been evolving steadily since Standardized Patients were first introduced in medical education, and the Penn Med SP Program is leading the way. When our program launched in 1997, Penn medical students were our primary clients. We now serve more than 4,000 learners each year – across multiple professions and at all levels of training. Over the past several years, we have expanded our client base beyond human health care, offering programs for diverse fields like veterinary medicine, social work, human resources, customer service and others.

Accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in the areas of Assessment, Research, Teaching/Learning and Systems Integration.
