The Diane v.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy University Professorship

Robert M. Levy and Diane v.S. LevyThis Penn Integrates Knowledge University Professorship was created in 2011 by Robert M. Levy and Diane v.S. Levy. Mr. Levy is a Penn Trustee.

A graduate of the Wharton MBA Program, Mr. Levy is Partner, Chairman, and Chief Investment Officer of Harris Associates LP, an investment management firm based in Chicago. Mr. Levy chairs the Investment Committee of the Penn Board of Trustees and previously served as Vice Chairman of the Wharton Board of Overseers. Mrs. Levy served on the Board of Overseers of the Penn Museum for 10 years. The Levys have generously supported a variety of programs at Penn, including the Levy Social Impact Fund and the Levy Fellowship Fund at Wharton, undergraduate scholarships, and the Penn Museum.

The Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) Program was launched by President Gutmann in 2005 as a University-wide initiative to recruit exceptional faculty members whose research and teaching exemplify the integration of knowledge across disciplines and who are appointed in at least two Schools at Penn.

Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD

Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD is the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives, the Diane v.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy University Professor, and Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. He is on the faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine and the Wharton School.

An influential scholar and policy expert, Dr. Emanuel works across disciplines and continents on globally significant issues. A breast oncologist by training, he has played a leading role in reforming both end-of-life care and the medical ethics of clinical research. He has also contributed to systemic change in healthcare policy, which culminated in the landmark Affordable Care Act.

At Penn, Dr. Emanuel’s leadership guides the University’s vision of global understanding, engagement, and impact. On campus, he shepherded the design of Perry World House, which engages faculty and students from all 12 schools as well as eminent international scholars and policymakers. Off-campus, Dr. Emanuel is spearheading Penn’s global reach by developing hubs in China, East Asia, India, and Africa.
