The Herbert C. Rorer Professorship of Medical Sciences

William H. Rorer

The Professorship was created in 1962 through the bequest of Gerald F. Rorer (1908–1976) to honor the memory of his brother Herbert C. Rorer (1906–1962).

William H. Rorer, father of Gerald and Herbert, founded a pharmaceutical business in Pennsylvania at the beginning of the 20th century. The Rorer brothers transformed this small, family-owned company into a major public corporation. Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, now part of Sanofi, became an international leader in the healthcare industry.
