The Matthew J. Wilson Professorship of Research Radiology II
The Professorship was established in 1955 through gifts from Matthew J. Wilson, Jr. (1895–1963), and Mrs. Fred C. Newcombe (1890–1979) to honor their father, Matthew J. Wilson, MD (1861–1931), a distinguished Philadelphia physician and civic leader.
Dr. Wilson practiced medicine in the Philadelphia community for over 50 years, during the period when the “family doctor” was called upon to treat all general and special ailments. He was a member of the Philadelphia Board of Education for 25 years.
Current Chairholder
Terence P. Gade, MD, PhD
Dr. Gade is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Cancer Biology, Scientific Director of the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute as well as co-Director of the Penn Image-Guided Interventions Lab, the Kim Lab for Innovation in Image-Guided Interventions and the Metabolic Discovery Center at Penn. The focus of his research lies at the intersection of cancer biology, molecular imaging and image-guided interventions with the goal of characterizing native and treatment-related cancer biology in order to develop novel imaging approaches and therapeutic strategies in Interventional Oncology. Motivated by clinical deficiencies, this research seeks to go from bedside-to-bench and back again to further diagnosis and treatment with a primary focus on hepatocellular carcinoma. These studies have led to prospective clinical trials in his laboratory that address fundamental clinical challenges.
