Presidential Professorships are awarded to exceptional scholars of any rank who will contribute to the diverse experiences, perspectives, and eminence of Penn faculty. They were established in 2011 to strengthen the University’s ability to recruit, retain and mentor distinguished scholars who are preeminent in their fields and have demonstrated a commitment to sustaining an inclusive and vibrant academic community.

Kellie Jurado, PhD

Kellie Jurado, PhD joined the Department of Microbiology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as Presidential Assistant Professor in July 2019. She earned her PhD in virology from Harvard University with Dr. Alan Engelman and completed her postdoctoral training in immunobiology at Yale with Dr. Akiko Iwasaki.  

The Jurado lab studies early-life immunity using emerging viruses and employs a combination of techniques from the fields of immunology, reproductive biology, genomics, molecular biology, and virology. Dr. Jurado is the recipient of multiple prestigious grants and fellowships, including the L’Oréal USA For Women in Science Award and the Pew Biomedical Research Scholar Fellowship. Most recently, she was named a 2022 David and Lucile Packard Foundation Fellow.
