The GU Medical Oncology Professorship

David J. Vaughn, MD is a leading cancer specialist whose research emphasizes innovative therapies for urologic cancers. Since 2009 he has directed the Abramson Cancer Center’s Clinical Research Unit (CRU), which provides infrastructure for high-impact clinical trials.

In 2013, Dr. Vaughn was selected for membership in the inaugural class of the Academy of Master Clinicians, the highest award for clinical excellence at Penn Medicine.

David J. Vaughn, MD

David J. Vaughn, MD is the inaugural chairholder of the endowed GU Medical Oncology Professorship. Dr. Vaughn is a nationally recognized medical oncologist who focuses his clinical and research activities in testicular cancer, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer. He has one of the largest testicular cancer practices in the country, drawing men from the tri-state area and beyond.

Dr. Vaughn’s clinical work is complemented by his teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. His clinical research focuses on the development of novel therapeutics in refractory genitourinary malignancies. He also studies the late effects of treatment in long-term survivors of testicular cancer. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and has written numerous reviews, chapters, and editorials.
