The Global Health Case Competition is a collaboration between the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn Medicine and the Center for Global Health. This free virtual event invites medical trainees from low- and middle-income countries to present unique clinical cases relevant to their local care context. Finalists will present their cases and hear from a keynote speaker working at the intersection of OB/GYN medicine and global health.

Presentations by selected participants will be given and judged during the virtual event on February 7th at 9:00 AM EST

Abstract Guidelines

Word Limit: 500 words

Anonymized Submission: Do not include any identifying information (e.g., names, institutions, or countries)
Evaluation Criteria
Abstracts will be assessed across the following domains: with special attention given to Innovation, Originality, and Novelty in approaches.

Clinical Content – History, physical exam, clinical data, differential diagnosis, and management

Abstract Quality – Clarity and organization

Innovation & Originality – Unique or insightful case elements, novel approaches

Practical Value – Clear teaching points, use of evidence-based medicine, relevance across diverse settings

OB/GYN Focus – Centrality and relevance to OB/GYN practice
Abstract Must Include:

Unique past medical and social history
- Brief description of the case and clinical course
- At least one teaching point

Word count at the end of the document
Abstract Must Not Include:

Names, departments, institutions, or countries

Names of mentors or team members
Additional Information

Each trainee may submit only one abstract.

A mentor is required for each submission. The mentor should be a consultant physician or have equivalent training.

Selected participants will receive instructions for submitting a full case presentation, including relevant images.

Finalists will present their case during the competition event.

Patient privacy is paramount: Ensure all submissions are fully de-identified and that appropriate patient consent has been obtained.
