Infectious Diseases

The Infectious Diseases Program of the IFI focuses on defining the nature and underlying mechanisms of protective and non-protective immune responses to microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, and parasites. The program supports both basic immunopathogenesis research in model systems as well as translational research in humans. Focus areas include, but are not limited to mechanisms of immunopathogenesis of: lentiviruses, acute and chronic viral, bacterial and parasitic infections in model systems and humans. We seek to encourage collaborations specifically between basic and translational infectious disease researchers in order to gain insight from model systems towards a greater understanding of human immune responses to infectious diseases.
