DIPSA Study

Diet interventions in psoriatic arthritis

Type

Interventional – diet

Randomized, controlled pilot trial.

Purpose

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory arthritis associated with substantial fatigue, pain, joint stiffness, and diminished function. Significant advances in treatment have reduced the burden of disease, but many people continue to have some disease activity while on treatment. Because comorbidities such as obesity have a strong link to PsA, dietary intervention may be a good target as adjunct therapy.

The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of dietary interventions on improving disease activity.

Participants will be randomized to one of three dietary interventions.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this study if you:

  • Are aged 18-80;
  • Have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis (PsA);
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 and less than 40;
  • Have been on stable treatment for PsA for at least 3 months; and
  • Still have some disease activity.

Participation

You will be followed over the course of 24 weeks at your usual clinical visits, with full skin and joint examinations at Baseline, 12 Weeks, and 24 Weeks.

You will complete questionnaires online regularly throughout the study to tell us how you’re doing.

You will also complete a three-day diet recall and collect a stool sample prior to your in-person study visits.

You will receive compensation for your time at both the in-person and remote study visits.
