Remembering Sidney Kobrin

Dr. Sidney Kobrin was an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Renal and Electrolyte Division and a member of the Penn community since 1989.  He is remembered as a gentle man, a great clinician and teacher, and a remarkably compassionate caregiver. Sidney’s compassion was expressed as love and manifest respect for all. Colleagues in the Renal Division agreed that he was the ideal physician for the emotionally fragile and demanding. Patients adored him. Of the many phrases indelibly associated with Sidney, two exemplify his inherent humility: “Could be worse,” and “Am I in trouble?” Sidney loved to tell stories, used props in his lectures, and had the same concern and devotion for trainees that he had for patients. Reflecting the respect of so many clinicians who knew him, Dr. Kobrin was awarded Penn Medicine’s I.S. Ravdin Master Clinician Award, the Tow Humanitarian Award, and the J. Russell Elkinton Faculty Teaching Award.
