Start your prenatal care BEFORE your first OB appointment!
Penn Medicine is offering all patients who are less than 7 weeks pregnant an opportunity to enroll into our APPLE Program! This program, currently only offered at Penn, aims to provide an effective way to reduce the risk of pregnnacy loss and preeclampsia with aspirin.
Participation is free of charge and involves no changes to your prenatal care! The program consists of following a prescribed aspirin regimen, completing questionnaires about your medical history and lifestyle, getting your blood drawn*, and completing monthly check-ins with the study staff throughout your pregnancy. If you agree to participate, you will be randomized into one of two treatment groups:
1. Double low dose aspirin daily (162mg of aspirin) from start date, or before 7 weeks gestation, until end of pregnancy.
2. Standard of care for low-dose aspirin (placebo starting immediately until 12 weeks gestation, then 81mg of daily aspirin starting at 12 weeks gestation until end of pregnancy).
This is a double-blinded study, meaning neither the study staff nor the participants will know which treatment arm they receive throughout their pregnancy. At an absolute minimum, all participants will receive the standard of care for aspirin in pregnancy.
You may receive up to $50 in compensation for completion of the enrollment visit and questionnaires!
