Grammarly Setup Guide
Overview
Grammarly is a writing-centric tool that provides writing assistance, expanding beyond grammar and spell-check with options including AI-assisted outlining, citation, and revision. Grammarly is approved for use with most data, including HIPAA, but not social security or credit card numbers.
Eligibility
Grammarly is available to all University faculty, staff, and students. There is no cost for using Grammarly under a pilot that will run into FY26.
How do I Access this Service?
Grammarly consists of two components. The first component is a software package that is installed on your computer and interacts with various software programs and websites. The second component is the web editor. Please note that web editor functionality has been disabled for PSOM users as it is not HIPAA compliant.
Once installed, Grammarly will automatically appear and begin offering suggestions in any place where multiline text may be typed or entered. You may choose to accept or ignore Grammarly's recommendations. Please note that Grammarly is restricted so that it only operates with an approved subset of applications and websites, which you can find in the frequently asked questions section.
Please make sure you are using this service in accordance with the University of Pennsylvania's Acceptable Use Policy and Penn Medicine Information Security policies (Intranet access only).
