The Wiers lab studies neural underpinnings of substance use disorders and neural effects of nutritional interventions using neuroimaging techniques. We investigate whether a bodily state of metabolic ketosis can improve brain energetics and clinical characteristics in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) using PET and MRI. We received funding to study the effects of non-fatal opioid overdose on Alzheimer's disease-related brain pathology using PET and MRI.
